Coolest Guy On The Planet – Andy Jenkins

Posted by planet on Dec 8, 2009 in coolest guy planet

Could Andy Jenkins, former CEO of Stompernet be the coolest guy on the planet, according to Google? Maybe. Here he is in the second of three videos, explaining why duplicate content will kill your website.

Here is a summary, continued from part One;
Bad Rankings
If the majority of pages on your website are considered duplicate content by the search engines this will lead to slow death of your site, where the only page listed in the Search Engine Index is your homepage. Therefore your site will only appear in search results when someone types in your exact URL, It’s not going to happen!

Look at your website as the Search Engines see it, The frame of the page consisting of;
1. Page Header
2. Left Hand Navigation
3. Footer
4. Right hand column
Refer to these as a site template, as these items will remain constant throughout the website. The part of the site that will change is the Middle of the page, Andy calls this “The content Container”.

To ensure you eliminate duplicate content, do the following;
1. Identify the word count for your site template.
Then Create more unique content in your “Content Container”, than you have in your “Site Template”

This will reduce sameness and increase the possibility of being indexed by the Search Engines.

2. Do not have duplicate title tags for any of your sites pages.

As Google can’t read the video below, I have translated it here so the Search Engines can crawl the words and index this page a unique content for my site. Bottom line is, if a large part of your site is going to be re-occurring (like the frame – site template), make it into an image so the Search Engines don’t crawl it and determine it as duplicate content.

Coolest Guy On The Planet -Make Money Online

Posted by planet on Nov 9, 2009 in SEO Google Yahoo MSN

You may remember that this entire blog “The Coolest Guy On The Planet” started as an SEO expriement. So to keep readers up to date with SEO topics the video below is from Andy Jenkins, former CEO of Stompernet.

Andy is explaining the importance of removing duplicate content from your site. The Duplicate content penalty from Google could ruin your online business.  If search engines believe that you have duplicate content (2 or more pages on your site) are similar enough that the Search Engine ignores them as they don’t include them in their index. Therefore the page doesn’t rank for any keyword, or pass link reputation or pass page rank.

So if  you want to make money online you need to remove the duplicate content to get rankings.

Key points that are dealt with are;

1.Onsite duplicate content , not on someone else’s pages or press releases

Individual pages on your site, defined as text content, not image or alt text for images. Its all about the text that you can select with your mouse and search engines can see.

3. Test the site to ensure you have removed all duplicate content.

Use your internal pages to build a mini internal hub so they pass link reputation and page rank.
